CONNECT FOUR Completing the 100km of length and 4800m of elevation of Oxfam Trailwalker is a strategic game. Adversity is against us from the beginning with horizontal moves (East Dam Reservoir) before it starts to play vertically (Sai Wan Shan, Rooster Hill, Ma On Shan) John has played the game many times. He does the first move for us; he sets the pace for the long game. Adversity tries to distract us with great views and more horizontal moves (Section 4). But Sam remains focused, he may choose left or right but he always stays next to John. Then Adversity challenges us with more vertical moves: Needle Hill, Grassy Hill, Tai Mo Shan. But Jean-Luc is no fool, he knows how to complete a diagonale. Adversity still has a desperate last move on sections 9 and 10. That’s when Eloi the triathlete comes to lead the run for the winning move: Four in a row at the finish line and game over!
